1) Open photo in Photoshop.
2) Make background layer into new layer, by double-clicking background layer in the Layers Window, and then click OK. (If Layers Window is not open, from the menu bar, choose Windows > Layers)
3) Use the Magnetic Lasso Tool, or other Lasso and Marquee Tools to trace around and highlight the subject of your photo.
(Feather should be set to about 1 or 2 pixels.)
4) Invert Selection (from Menu bar, choose Select > Inverse)
5) Remove background by pressing Delete on the keyboard. (Or, from Menu bar, choose Edit > Cut)
6) Deselect highlight, by pressing Ctrl+D on the keyboard. (Or, right-mouse-button click, choose deselect. Or, from Menu bar, choose Select > Deselect)
7) Open a digital backdrop in Photoshop. Photo and digital backdrop should be in two separate windows in Photoshop...neither window should be "maximized" so each image can be seen in some part.
8) Check image size of photo (from menu bar: Image > Image Size) then resize the digital backdrop as necessary. For example, if photo is 1600 x 1200 pixels, resize the digital backdrop to about that size.
9) Using the Move Tool, click on the subject of the photo, hold down on the mouse button, and drag the subject of the photo into the digital backdrop window, and onto the digital backdrop. Subject should now be on new layer above digital backdrop layer. (If subject looks too big or too small on the digital backdrop, undo, and repeat step 8 above.)
10) On the new combined image, Zoom in, and using the Eraser Tool, remove any rough edges from around the subject of the photo, or clean up any fragments left behind from the original photo.
11) Add Layer Effects as needed, such as a drop shadow on the subject of your photo. (Double-click subject layer in Layers Window for control panel.) Crop entire new image as necessary, and Save completed project.
