Tip #6
Saving Your Work
Copyright © 2004 Photobacks.com. All Rights Reserved.
As we mention in our tutorials, as you work on your photo, continue to save the file under whatever type of file type is native to the software you're working with. (Paint Shop Pro is .psp -- Photoshop is .psd) These formats will save your work in their original forms with layers, and no quality loss. If you're printing from your home or office, on a printer that is directly connected to your computer, you can print these files in this format without saving them as a different file type. Or, save them again as .tif files for printing from a folder on your computer -- you will lose the layers (flatten the image) by saving it as a .tif file -- but, for ease of use when printing, you won't have to reopen your image software to print .tif files directly from your computer.
If you plan on taking your images to a Photo Printing Lab, save them as uncomprssed .tif files first, or the highest quality .jpg with the least amount of compression. Some photo labs can recognize the LZW compressed .tif files and .psd files, but most we've come across do not.
