In most softwares, a quick and easy way to remove your subject from the original background
(when not using a chromakey, or color screen when shooting) is to use the Edge Finder, Smart Edge Tool, or Magnetic Lasso Tool.
If your software has it, try it out, it just might help you speed up the process of getting rid of the original background.
(If you need to know how to select this tool in your software, search your Help menu for the tool name.)
Select your Edge Tool / Magnetic Lasso Tool and click around the edges of your subject.
You'll notice that your subject's outline will be highlighted / selected, and pretty cleanly around the edges,
depending on your Feather and Smoothing settings for the tool.
In Photoshop, use your Move Tool to drag your highlighted subject onto a properly sized digital backdrop. In other softwares, you can
Copy and Paste your highlight subject to the backdrop. If you play around with the adjustments of the tool,
you might find that this is a quick and easy way to cut out your subject cleanly, without having to erase the original background. We prefer taking the time to erase our original backgrounds in detail, but this tool can help when you're either in a rush or having fun/practicing, or it can also be a good first step in getting rid your original background.
For more information on the process of cutting, pasting, and resizing within digital backdrops, see our detailed tutorials section.
